Panna Cotta showcases how uncomplicated the Italian Cuisine can be. Anyone can make it at home yet it is still eyecatching.

To take it a step further, Panna Cotta is super versatile. The base itself or the sauce on top can be flavoured with Vanilla, Berries, Chocolate, Pistacchio and more.

Panna Cotta translates to "cooked Cream". It is best described by: minimal ingredients - maximal flavour.

Now the Recipe will Initiate. It will be structured in Ingredients, Instructions and Variations. This Recipe starts with the Classic Panna Cotta. 

Panna Cotta Ingredients

The Ingredients for Classic Panna Cotta are simple. The sauce ingredients are included in this passage.

Vanilla Panna Cottta

  • 500g Heavy Cream

  • 80g Sugar (1/3 cup)

  • 8g sheets of Gelatine

  • 1 Vanilla Bean

Berry Sauce

  • 300g Berries

  • 50g Sugar (1/4 cup)

  • 1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice

How to make Panna Cotta

Step 1 :

Soak the Gelatine Sheets in Cold Water for 10-15 Minutes.

Note: They need to be Soft once added to the Cream.

Step 2 :

In a small pot combine the Heavy Cream with Sugar and extracted Vanilla. Put it on Low Heat.

Once the Cream starts boiling, turn off the Heat and remove the Pan.

Advice: The Vanilla seeds can be extracted with the tip of a knife after cutting the bean lengthwise.

Step 3 :

Add the softened Gelatine to the Heavy Cream. Stir until completely dissolved.

Advice: Don’t excessively squeeze the Gelatine when taking it out of the Water.

Step 4 :

Fill the Cream Mixture into small molds.

How long does Panna Cotta take to set?

Let them rest in the Refrigerator for atleast 4 hours.

Step 5 : Serve

For the Classic Topping, serve the Panna Cotta with Berry Sauce and Fresh Berries.

Advice: Panna Cotta looks stunning served on a black plate.

How to make Berry Sauce

Step 1 :

Combine Berries, Sugar, Lemon Juice in a small sauce pan.

Cook over Medium Heat, stir occasionally until the Berries release their juice & the mixture thickens.

Step 2 :

For smoothness: blend the mixture and strain it to remove seeds.

Note: If you do not have a blender, it is fine to immediately strain it. Incase the sauce lacks thickness, let it simmer more on Low Heat.

Step 3 :

Before drizzling the Sauce on the Panna Cotta, let it cool down completely.

Panna Cotta Sauces (Variations)

Chocolate Panna Cotta

For a Chocolate Panna Cotta, either the Heavy Cream Base can be flavoured with Chocolate, or Chocolate Sauce can be poured on Top, giving it a similar end result as the Classic Option.

Both Variations will be introduced.

Chocolate Base :

  • 500g Heavy Cream

  • 80g Sugar (1/3 cup)

  • 10g sheets of Gelatine

  • 100g Chocolate

Advice: If milk chocolate is used, reduce the Sugar to 50g.

Instructions overall remain the same. Finely chopped Chocolate is added in Step 2 and stirred in until smooth. (Before adding the Gelatine)

How to make Chocolate Sauce

Ingredients :

  • 100g Chocolate

  • 100g Heavy Cream

  • 15g Butter

Instructions :

Finely chop the Chocolate. Heat up the Heavy Cream. Once it begins to steam, turn off the Heat. Add the chopped chocolate and gently stir until smooth. Finally, add the butter for a silky, glossy finish.

Pistacchio Panna Cotta

Pistacchio Base :

  • 500g Heavy Cream

  • 80g Sugar (1/3 cup)

  • 10g sheets of Gelatine

  • 200g Pistacchio Cream

Instructions overall remain the same. Pistacchio Cream is added in Step 2 and stirred in until smooth. (Before adding the Gelatine)

Pistacchio Topping:

Simply Pistacchio Cream, and/or finely chopped Pistacchio can be added for decoration on Top.
